Roma Seven 2009 promises to be more exciting than ever! The world best Rugby seven teams are back in Rome to challenge “gli Azzuri” to conquer the Banca Fideuram Roma Seven Cup. After the amazing tournament of June 2008 – played by the best and most renowned teams in the Rugby Seven circuit – this year the team to beat is the British Army ARU that has to defend the title.

The most prestigious international rugby teams will attend the tournament. The France National team, the Italian National team, the Arabian Gulf team, the South Africans of Stellenbosch University and the France master team Froggies. We will see again the Samurai whose line-up included in previous editions the Rugby Seven top-scorer of the world and captain Ben Gollings and the National English Seven players R. Thirlby, W. Matthews and Tim Walsh former captain of the National Australian Seven. The Seven Kings of Rome, real all Stars team, who have had amongst their lines W. Serevi, the “Maradona” of Rugby Seven, and A. Penelise, IRB Best Seven Player 2007, All Blacks’7 captain DJ Forbes, IRB Best Seven Player 2007, the Springbock J.Nokwe e R. Dazel, in 2009 will count in their lines the legendary South African Golden Lions.

The 2008 Champions, the British Army team, composed by extraordinary players from Fiji have confirmed their attendance as well as the south Africans from Stellembosch University (2008 Seven Kings Plate). After last year’s amazing performance, the Adidas Mauraders will be back, as well as the Mel’s Exiles and the Argentinean Clandestinos. For the first time in Rome the super club Uprising from Fiji and the US champion Atlantis.

As well as last year, it will be held the veteran tournament (over 35) but the real news is the first Ladies tournament, with the presence in the Acquacetosa Stadium of: Italy 7, Scotland 7, the Samurai Ladies Red & Blu, and the Israeli Seven National team.

Outstanding the quality level of the Banca Fideuram Roma Seven 2009 edition: top-level teams from five continents representing the best of the rugby circuit

The most famous club in Italy - a real All Star tam: The Seven Kings, (finalist 2002 and 2005) who have had, in the past 2008 edition, amongst their lines W. Serevi, icon of the Rugby Seven world, with 4 New Zealand national players, the famous All Blacks: James Maher, Justin Wilson, David Falealilli, Roger Randall. In the past edition the team hosted, among others also two IRB Best Seven Player winners, the New Zealander A. Penelise (2007) and DJ Forbes (2008).

From South Africa is expected the return of the athletes of Stellenbosch University the most prestigious South African club, finalist in 2008 and champions in 2006 who counts amongst their numerous illustrious international awards the Roma Seven Cup.

From Argentina: The Clandestinos are a selection of the best Argentinean players from the Italian, French, English and Spanish Championships. From the United States of America: The Atlantis Rugby, the most prestigious U.S. super club with a selection of the best overseas players.
From Europe: the most prestigious teams from the “Old Continent” such as the Samurai RFC champions Roma Seven 2003 and 2005, who had brought in 2006 the world star of Rugby 7 Ben Gollings, the defendant champion of Roma Sven cup, the British Army ARU team, who count amongst their line-up several acrobatic Fijians, Mel’s Exiles from Scotland, with the best Scottish Rugby Seven players; and the Maurauders, winners of the Amsterdam Seven 2004.

From Europe are also expected the beloved Italian National Team, (2004 champions); the French National team and the amazing Froggies club magnificent example of exciting French Rugby.

In addition to the Italian National Team, champions of the Roma Seven Cup 2004, Rugby Capitolina and Polisportiva S.S.Lazio 1927 will defend the Italian honour.
The “Banca Fideuram Roma Seven”, the “Roma Seven Ladies” and the “Vets Tournament” (over 35), part of the “Roma Seven International Sevens”, will be held on Friday, June 5th and Saturday, June 6th, 2009. The participation of the best Rugby Seven teams worldwide, 20 teams, in 5 pools, is expected and each will compete for the Roma Seven 2008 edition to steal the title currently held by the British Army. The final matches of the 2009 edition will be broadcasted live by the Italian national television RAI from 19.30 to 24.00 on Saturday, 6th of June

The entrance to the 1st day of the event on Friday 5th June is free. The cost of the entrance for the whole day action on Saturday, 6th of June costs 10 €, with the tickets available on-line throughout Lis Ticket as well as at the Stadium of Acqua Acetosa CONI G. Onesti – Parioli Via dei Campi Sportivi.



“Banca Fideuram Roma Seven” International Rugby Sevens, will start on Friday, 5th June at 9.30 a.m. with the qualifying rounds matches. The matches of this eliminatory stage will last 14 minutes each (7 minutes time for each period) and will take place in the central field until 8 p.m.

On Saturday 6th of June will take place the second edition of tournament over 35 “Memorial Renato Speziali” , the “Roma Seven Ladies Tournament” and the final rounds of the “Banca Fideuram Roma Seven International Seven 2009”. The matches are scheduled to start at 09.30 a.m. and will continue till an extraordinary night with the semi-final and final match. After the quarter and semi – finals, the third team of each round will compete for the “Seven Kings Plate” with matches of two periods of 10 minutes each. The “Gran final” for the “Banca Fideuram Roma Seven Cup 2009” is scheduled at 11.30 p.m.

After the award celebration for the “Banca Fideuram Roma Seven Cup 2009”, the “Seven Kings Plate 2009”, the “Roma Seven Ladies Tournament” and the “Memorial Renato Speziali” the fabulous Roma Seven Party begins, with the special presence of the best DJs and the most beautiful Italian women. There will also be a restaurant/café service with chill-out music available throughout the entire tournament until late-night hours.
